- Do
I need a Student Permit?
Most foreign
students will need a Study Permit to study in Canada. There are some exceptions:
You do not need a
Study Permit if you are enrolled in a course or program in Canada with a
duration of six months or less. However, you must complete the course or program
within the period authorized for your stay in Canada.
-
What is the Benefit for having a
Student Permit?
You should apply for a Study Permit before you come to Canada if you
think you may wish to continue your studies in another program after you
complete the short-term course or program.
If you do not have a valid Study Permit and wish to
continue your studies, you will have to leave Canada in order to apply for
one!
- Why should I get a Study Permit?
There are benefits to having a Study Permit, even if you do not require
one. If you have a valid Study Permit you can:
Work part-time on campus at the college or university at which you are
registered as a full-time student.
You can renew your Study Permit from within Canada, if you decide to
continue studying in Canada.
- When
Should I apply for my Study Permit and how long does it take?
You should apply as soon as you receive your letter of acceptance. The
process varies from country to country. It can take as little as 3 days in
some countries and as long as 6 months in others. Be prepared to present bank statements, which support your
ability to finance your studies.
- When
will I receive the letter of acceptance?
Letters of Acceptance will be issued upon receipt of the completed
registration form. Payment of a deposit may be required. Please check with
us on deposit policy.
- Do
you issue Conditional Acceptances?
Yes! For most countries community colleges will issue a conditional
acceptance, which indicates that you will begin studies in English and
continue on to a specified Diploma program upon completion of Level 8 of
English for Academic Purposes.
- If
under the age of 18, is parental consent a requirement?
If a minor
child is coming to study in Canada, they will need a custodian in Canada.
All minor applicants must supply a notarized declaration — one signed by the
parents or legal guardians in the country of origin, as well as one signed
by the custodian in Canada — stating that arrangements have been made for
the custodian to act in place of a parent.
The Visa Officer must be satisfied that adequate
arrangements are in place for the care and support of minor children who are
unable to support themselves
- Can
I work off-campus with a student visa?
International students may work off-campus if the job is part of an
academic program such as a field placement or co-operative education work
term. There is also the opportunity for students to stay in Canada for up to
one year and work in their field of study. Please contact Canadian
Immigration for further details.
- How
do I pay my fees?
Payment may be made by credit card, through a wire transfer, money
order, or bank draft. Additional bank charges may also apply. Please ensure
that your full name is on all correspondence.
- Can
I pay in U.S. dollars?
Yes! If you are paying by bank draft or wire
fees, your payment may be sent in U.S. fund equivalents. Please keep in mind
that the conversion will be done when the money reaches the individual
schools. Therefore, under some circumstances money sent and money received
may vary and you will be responsible for the difference.
For your convenience, you may also make payment in
Canadian currency
